If you don’t pay your town bills on time, it’s going to cost you. Town Meeting voted last month to raise the demand fee — the feel that’s charged when your account is more than 30 days past due — from $5 to $20.
The $5 charge had been in place for at least 25 years. Selectman Bill Boland said raising the fee brings it in line with area towns and will help pay for increases in postage and labor.
According to a recent report in the Metrowest Daily News, Ashland’s demand fee is $30, Holliston’s is $10, and Westborough was considering raising theirs from $5 to $10.
