The Northborough/Southborough Relay for Life kicks off on Friday

Betty Minnucci and Bea Ginga at the 2009 Relay for Life. They’ll be walking again this year.

The track at Algonquin will be crowded on Friday night, but not with the usual set of high school sprinters, shot-putters, and high jumpers. Instead, the track will be taken over by cancer survivors, cancer patients, friends, family, and supporters.

From Friday afternoon into the wee hours of Saturday morning, Algonquin will play host to the Northborough-Southborough Relay for Life, a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.

The opening ceremony starts at 6:00 pm. So far 43 teams and more than 420 walkers have signed up. As of yesterday, they had raised more than $25K in the fight against cancer.

New participants and survivors are welcome to register at the event. If you can’t participate, but you’d like to donate, you can do so online.
