What to do this summer: Sports programs

There are several options this summer if sports are what your kids are into. Here’s a summary.

Girl’s Summer Volleyball ClinicSponsored by ARHS Volleyball Boosters
This clinic is designed to introduce girls, of all skill levels, to the fun‐filled game of volleyball. Through this clinic girls will not only learn the basics, consisting of passing, setting, hitting, and serving, but will also be introduced to the Algonquin Volleyball and Athletic community. For girls entering grades seven through ten, the clinic runs from July 6-9, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at Algonquin. All skill levels welcome. (more info)

Assabet Valley FUN-damental Basketball CampSponsored by Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School
Again this year, Assabet Valley’s girls basketball coach, Frank Ferreer, will be running two sessions of a fundamental basketball camp. Ferreer coached the Lady Aztecs to their second straight State Vocational Championship this year. The camp is open to boys and girls of all abilities, between the ages of 8 and 15.  Session I will run from June 28 – July 1, while Session II runs from August 2 – August 5. Daily hours are Monday – Thursday, from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm and the cost per session is $160.00 ($140.00 if you sign up for both sessions). (more information)

Intermediate Golf LessonsSponsored by the Southborough Recreation Department
For individuals who already play golf or for those who have completed our Beginner Lessons. Emphasis on golf fundamentals, rules and basic ball fight laws. Discussion of course management and how to lower your score. One lesson will cover putting and short game. Saturday afternoons beginning May 15th. Pinecrest Golf Club in Holliston.  For ages 6 to 9 or 10 to 15, $132/pp. (more info)

Pony PowerSponsored by the Southborough Recreation Department
This program is a safe and fun way to get young kids into the saddle. Learn to groom, tack and handle the ponies and learn to ride too! Each child gets individual attention in a short private lesson. Facilities include indoor and outdoor arenas and a heated viewing lounge at Century Mills Stable, Bolton, MA. For 4 to 6 year olds, on Wednesdays from 2 to 2:50pm. Session 3 begins June 2.  4 Week /$145. (more info)

Horse Power Sponsored by the Southborough Recreation Department
This program is for the older child that is ready to ride!  It emphasizes groundwork and handling, and each child gets individual attention in a small group lesson, learning to mount, dismount, steer at the walk and begin to trot.  Does your child have some experience?  Let us know!  Each child will progress at his own pace.  Facilities include indoor and outdoor arenas and a heated viewing lounge at Century Mills Stable, Bolton, MA.  For ages 6 and up on Sundays from 2 to 2:50pm. Session 3 begins June 6.  4 Weeks/$165. (more info)
