St. Mark’s accepting applications for recreation grants

Each year St. Mark’s awards several thousand dollars in Choate Fund grants to sponsor recreation programs in Southborough. This year they’ll be dolling out $3,500. The application deadline is May 6.

Any Southborough resident can apply for a grant, with the purpose of enhancing public recreation. In the past Choate grants have gone toward 9/11 Memorial Field, the clearing of walking trails, an after-school field hockey program, outdoor activity areas for Woodward and Finn schools, and lights and field renovations at Choate Field at Woodward.

The Metrowest Daily News explains the grants are funded through the estate of Charles F. Choate who died 100 years ago this year.

If you’d like to apply, send a brief statement of purpose, a proposed budget, and a description of intended beneficiaries by May 6 to John C. Warren, head of school, St. Mark’s School, 25 Marlborough Road, Southborough, MA 01772.
