The Algonquin girls lacrosse team pulled off a resounding win against Groton-Dunstable in the Central Division semifinals yesterday, qualifying them for the finals on Saturday.

Algonquin beat Groton-Dunstable by a score of 19-8 at Foley Stadium in Worcester. Southborough photographer Chris Wraight (www.thawkspix.com) was at the game and send in this report:

Algonquin is seeded #3, while Groton-Dunstable is seeded #2. Groton-Dunstable scored in the first 60 seconds, but the Algonquin girls didn’t let it bother them. Algonquin lead 8-6 at the half and really opened it up in the second half to win 19-8.

The girls will face top-seed Westborough in the finals on Saturday at 2:00 pm at Foley Stadium.

In other postseason action, three Algonquin teams will play semifinal matches today. The boys lacrosse team will take on Grafton at 7:00 pm at Foley Stadium. The girls tennis team will play St. Peter Marian at 3:15 pm at Algonquin. The boys tennis team will face St. John’s at 3:00 pm, but the location of the match has not been posted on the MIAA website. Anyone know?
