The Assabet Valley Mastersigners, a choral group with members from Southborough, Northborough, Marlborough, Hudson, Shrewsbury, Westborough and surrounding communities, will hold open rehearsals for new members in September.

An audition is required to join the Mastersingers. The group says while vocal training is not essential, basic musicianship, a good musical ear, and a dedication and love for the choral classics are a must. The group performs three concerts each year — one in November, one in March, and one in May. They also hold a popular Messiah sing-along in December.

Auditions will be held at open rehearsals on Tuesday, September 6, and Monday, September 12 at 7:30 p.m at St. Mark’s School in the Class of 1945 Hall in the Performing Arts Center (map).

The Mastersingers was founded in 1978 by former Algonquin choral director Robert Easton. It currently has over 70 members. Additional open rehearsals will be held for prospective new members in November and March. You can find more information on their website (
