Obit: Carl Phillipo – August 18, 2011

Carl Phillipo, 68, of Westborough and formerly of Ashland and Fayville, died on Thursday, August 18, 2011 surrounded by his family, after a long battle with cancer.

He was the long time companion and the soul mate of Judy Hyotte of Westborough.

Born in Marlborough, he was the son of the late Elmer Phillipo and Alice (Bertonassi) Phillipo of Fayville. Carl was a graduate of Marlborough Vocational School and worked for Century Manufacturing of Holliston for over 37 years as the manager of the tool room. He was a life member of the Ashland Lions where he was a former president and treasurer for over 20 years. Carl was the recipient of the prestigious Melvin Jones Award, a Progressive Melvin Jones award and the Sight Award. He also received a life time achievement award for his leadership and service for the Special Olympics August games and Ashland Lions Club. He loved to travel, enjoyed sailing and was an avid golfer. As a devoted family man he coached little league, hockey and was ever present at wrestling matches. He was known for his great sense of humor and caring nature.

In addition to Judy and his mother he is survived by his children, Maryanne Phillipo of Ashland; Matthew Phillipo and his wife Lisa of Sturbridge; Anthony Phillipo of Ashland; a brother, Ronald Phillipo and his wife Ellie of Marlborough; 4 sisters, Ann Marie Huff and her husband Ken; June Phillipo, Elyse Phillipo, and Albena Phillipo and her husband Peter Kahn all of Southborough; 4 grandchildren, CJ Phillipo, Sydney Phillipo, Robyn Phillipo, and Chloe Lavin; a great grandson, Brady Phillipo.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, August 23, from 4 to 8 PM at Morris Funeral Home, 40 Main St. Southborough. (Morrisfuneralparlor.com)

Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, August 24 at 11 AM at St. Anne Church, 20 Boston Rd, Southborough. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be sent in his memory to Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF), 383 Main Ave, 5th Floor Norwalk, CT 06851.
