Southborough fire chief urges caution in advance of Hurricane Irene

Fire Chief John Mauro, Jr. issued the following statement on Hurricane Irene, which forecasters say will hit Massachusetts on Sunday:

Southborough is expecting to feel effects of Hurricane Irene with potential heavy rain and strong winds.

We recommend that if you are planning to leave the area, do so prior to noon on Saturday.

If you plan to stay, please be sheltered and prepared by no later than by noon on Saturday.

People living in low lying areas normally prone to flooding should strongly consider relocating.

After the storm passes, be aware of dangerous conditions and other hazards. Please refrain from travel to let public safety and works personnel conduct assessment and storm clean-up.
