Car accident, downed tree to blame for weekend power outages in Southborough

I slipped out of town for a few days last week, and in doing so I missed a few notable events (sorry, it happens). Thanks to a number of faithful readers for sending in the tips.

On Friday afternoon shortly after 3:00 pm, a car crashed into a telephone pole on Main Street near the Community House. Fire Chief Joseph Mauro said the force of the accident was enough to break the pole into three pieces. One occupant of the vehicle was taken to Marlborough Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Power was knocked out in the center of town – including to the police and fire stations – and Main Street was closed in both directions while the accident was cleared and the pole was fixed.

On Saturday morning a large pine tree came crashing down on Woodland Road near Oregon Road presumably due to the strong winds that day. Woodland Road was blocked for a time and power was out to the neighborhood. Thanks to reader Lisa for snapping a photo.
