The high school sports postseason is in full swing, and Algonquin will compete on the lacrosse field and on the volleyball court this week.

After winning their first round match against Marlborough last week, the 8th-seed Algonquin boys volleyball team will face top-seed Milford in the Central Division 1 quarterfinals on Wednesday. It will no doubt be a tough match, but Algonquin will go in on a high note after what one spectator called their “dominating” 3-0 win over Marlborough. Wednesday’s game takes place in Milford at 4:00 pm.

Also on Wednesday, the top-seed Algonquin boys lacrosse team will take on 16th-seed Hudson in the first round of the Central Division 2 playoffs. Algonquin is the defending Central Mass champion, having made it all the way to the state finals last year. Wednesday’s game is at Algonquin starting at 4:00 pm.

After a dramatic win over rival Westborough last week, the Algonquin girls lacrosse team enters the Central Division 1 playoffs as the top-ranked team. With a bye in the first round, the girls will take on either 8th-seed Broomfield or 9th-seed Tyngsborough on Saturday at 4:00 pm at Algonquin.

In other sports action, the Algonquin boys outdoor track team placed second overall at the Central Mass Track Meet at Fitchburg State on Saturday. Three Algonquin boys took first in individual races, and the team set a meet record in the 4×100 relay. The Algonquin girls placed third overall at the meet. You can see complete results for the boys and girls on the MIAA tournament website.
