Obituary: Nancy Arone Bassett, 60

Surrounded by family, Nancy Arone Bassett, passed away Wednesday June 20, 2012.

Nancy is survived by Ted, her husband of 31 years, three children – Andrew Bassett and his wife Elizabeth of Chicago, IL, Allison Bassett of Brookline, and Christopher Bassett of Southborough, her father Dr. Vincent J. Arone of Hopedale, her siblings – Justine Milberg and her husband John of Bainbridge Island, WA, Cynthia Young and her husband Peter of Medway, and Vincent J. Arone Jr and his wife Nancy of Hopedale. She was predeceased by her mother Marie P. (Leone) Arone and her sister Jane Antonellis. The beloved mother of three battled a rare form of cancer for two-and-a-half years prior to her death.

Nancy was born in 1952 and grew up in Watertown and Hopedale. She was the salutatorian of her high school class at Hopedale High School, graduated Magna Cum Laude from Boston College, and attained her master’s degree in educational psychology at the University of Virginia. Nancy spent years as a counselor at both Simmons College and Boston College. More recently, she was a reading specialist at the Trottier Middle School in Southborough. She enjoyed tennis, spending the summer at Scraggy Neck Cape Cod, taking long walks with her friends and being a member of several book clubs. Nancy, Ted, their children and their dog Abby live in Southborough, where they lived for nearly thirty years. More than anything, Nancy enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, whose relationships she cultivated and cherished until she passed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday June 23, 2012 at 12 noon in the Sacred Heart Church, 187 Hopedale Street, Hopedale 01747. Burial will follow in the Hopedale Village Cemetery, Hopedale. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Nancy’s memory to the Lung Cancer Fund, c/o Mass General Hospital Development Office, 165 Cambridge St., Suite 600, Boston, MA 02191. I am so very sorry to hear this. My heart goes out to the Basset family. It is so very hard to lose as vibrant and lovely a person as Nancy.
