This week in sports – plus Girls Soccer and young players support Breast Cancer Awareness

Below are the ARHS varsity games on tap for the week. But first, more news on the season to date.

Golf continues their season-long winning streak with a 17th win. Boys Soccer continues its undefeated season with its 12th win. And Football continued its season turnaround with a fourth win on Friday, cinching “its first playoff berth since 1987,” according to Southborough Wicked Local.

My favorite highlight of last week came from Girls soccer.

The team has been having a great season (9 wins, 2 Ties, 2 Losses, and pre-qualified for tournament). But after Tuesday’s match, supporters were boasting about players for efforts that had nothing to do with their footwork.

Kristen Morin shared:

The game was the Breast Cancer Awareness Event and the girls wore pink shirts that they had made, pink hair ribbons and pink shoelaces as well as ran a raffle in the stands to benefit Breast Cancer.

The team invited Southborough’s U11 girls to not only be ball girls for the event but to participate in the pre-game activities. The 5th grade girls were invited to be part of the starters tunnel, where each starting player was announced with a U11 girl over the loudspeaker, ran through the tunnel and collecting her younger player partner to run hand in hand to the middle of the field after shaking hands with the opposing coach. There they stood in line for the National Anthem. and then returning to high five Coach Taggert of the T-Hawks.

It was a great moment to witness and the younger girls faces lit up at the chance to hang out with the ARHS T Hawks.

The team went on to beat Shephard Hill 3-0.
