Obituary: Ramon Alan, 89

Ramon Alan, 89, of Southborough, and formerly of Lexington, died at his home on Friday, January 2, 2015 surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Lucille (Perlmutter) Alan to whom he was married for 69 years.

Born in Paterson, NJ, he was the son of the late Samuel and Ethel (Frocht) Lifsitz.

Mr. Alan was a graduate of Cornell University in Ithaca, NY and worked for many years as an engineer for the Mitre Corporation in Bedford, MA. Ramon was passionate in his pursuit of engineering and took great pleasure in encouraging this same passion in others. He was an avid skier and sailor, and was a skilled builder of his own sailboats.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son Michael Alan and his wife, Charlotte, of Methuen; son Robert Alan of Southborough; daughter in law Marie Alan of N. Grafton; sister Ina Katcher of NY; brother in law Mort Parker and his wife, Jan, of Needham; 2 grandchildren, Rebecca and Jason Alan, of N. Grafton; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in his memory to NAMI Mass, Attn: Marilyn DeSantis, Donor Relations, The Schrafft’s Center, 529 Main St., Suite 1M17, Boston, MA 02129.

Arrangements are under the care of the Morris Funeral Home, 40 Main Street, Southborough.
