Support open land; encourage kids’ scientific learning

Above: SOLF is looking for support plus volunteers for its continuing herps survey – which could serve as an opportunity for parents of kids interested in science/wildlife. (Images from SOLF Facebook page)

Southborough Open Land Foundation has two news items worth sharing.

As I shared this spring, SOLF is continuing its wildlife survey (focused on “herps”).

The group is now encouraging parents to think of helping as a great summer science project for their kids. (Something some are already doing.)

New SOLF Trustee Lawrence Spezzanno is again directing the Herpetological study at the Beals Preserve. We are collecting data on species of frogs, salamanders etc. We have quite a few volunteers who have been trained and are now helping. We even have some parent-child combinations! What an amazing summer project for those scientifically inclined. There is still room for a few more. Contact us through this site if you are interested.

The group also shared that a local restaurant will donate 10% of your bill to SOLF if you print and provide the coupon, good through December:

Want to eat dinner at Sorentos Italian Gourmet Restaurant and support SOLF?  Jeff Zamri, owner of Sorentos Italian Gourmet Restaurant, 128 Main Street, Marlboro, MA, is an avid lover of the outdoors. Jeff’s love of the outdoors motivated him to make a generous offer to donate to SOLF each time you eat at Sorentos. Print out this COUPON and present it when you eat at Sorentos, and Sorentos will donate 10% of your entire food purchase up to $50.00 to SOLF. You do not have to be a member of SOLF to take advantage of this offer. Please visit Sorentos, enjoy a delicious meal, meet Jeff, and support SOLF. Thank you Sorentos Italian Gourmet Restaurant and Jeff Zamri.
