The Southborough Library will be lending out a new resource soon. Thanks to a sponsorship, patrons will have the chance to borrow a telescope.

MathWorks of Natick is funding the Library’s telescope through Aldrich Astronomical Society’s adopt-a-library-telescope program. The program:

is to foster scientific literacy, stimulate an interest in astronomy, and provide people—who have never looked through a telescope—with the chance to experience the excitement that comes from discovery.

The Library is holding an info session next week. It will be run by AAS, who will provide a tutorial on using the instrument.

They will teach you how to observe objects from your own backyard using a technique called “star-hopping.”

To help draw a crowd, they are also offering door prizes. And if the weather cooperates, there may also be some “outdoor observing” that night.

The session runs Thursday, August 25 from 7:30 – 8:30 pm on the main floor.
