Special Olympics of Massachusetts is looking to take over the Boroughs for the weekend. The community is invited to take an icy plunge, cheer on young ballers, and/or enjoy a mexican meal all while supporting the charity.

This Saturday, March 4, Special Olympics is holding a Polar Plunge in Marlborough. Instead of dumping water over their heads, participants will be jumping into it. (And given the forecast for the day, it’s sure to feel icy.)

A rep from the charity informs me that student groups from Trottier Middle School and Algonquin have committed to the plunge. Those Below Zero Heroes will be part of a fundraiser sponsored by Marlborough Police. You can show up in support, donate to the cause, or join in yourself. For more details, click here.

A post plunge party will take place at Margarita’s in Northborough.

It’s the perfect spot, because anyone who shows up with a Noche Mexicana flyer will have 20% of their bill donated to the the charity.

That’s anyone through lunch and dinner. (In other words, you don’t need to be part of the Polar Plunge to participate. Just click on the flyer right.)

The next day in Southborough, Fay School and St. Mark’s School are hosting the Juniors/Player Development Basketball Tournament. It’s their state tournament, and Southborough Police will be on hand to give out trophies.

Why the police? The plunge and tournament are both part of a fundraising and awareness building campaign for Special Olympics sponsored by Mass Law Enforcement:

The Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR) is a year-round fundraising and awareness building program, designed to allow members of the law enforcement community the opportunity to support Special Olympics athletes who live, work and compete in their local communities.

The basketball tournament is from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 5. For more details, click here.
