Events this week: Legos, Concerts, Kids art, Wegmans Musical, Baseball Movie night and more (Updated)

Here are highlights of what’s happening around town this week.

Tuesday, June 5, 2018

  • Boating for Seniors (9:30 am – 12:00 pm) @ Hopkinton State Park: A group of up to 8 people can utilize the Senior Center’s boating pass to use Kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, rowboats, and/or pedal boats. This is the first session of the weekly offering through the end of August. For details, including parking info, see Senior Center flyer.
  • Tina Bemis – Birdcage (1:00 – 2:00 pm) @ Southborough Senior Center: A program of the Southborough Senior Center. (Registration required and it may be full. To find out our register, call 508-229-4453.) $15 per Friends of COA member, $25 per non-member. For details, see the flyer
  • Legos at the Library (3:45 – 5:00 pm) @ Southborough Public Library: Children are welcome to come build with Legos, and display their creations in the Children’s Room. Legos will be provided, but all materials need to remain at the library. Parents or caregivers must stay with children during this event.
  • Neary Band Concert (7:00 – 8:00 pm) @ Trottier Middle School: Neary 4th & 5th Grade, and Blues Bands perform.

Wednesday, June 6, 2018

  • Nutrition Demo – Learn About Lentils (Senior Center Program) (11:30 am – 11:30 am) @ Southborough Senior Center: Run by Dietician Karen White. Capacity is limited so participants were asked to sign up early. To register, call 508-229-4453. The suggested donation for the program is $3 per person. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Food Truck Wednesdays (3:00 – 7:00 pm) @ St. Mark’s Meadow on corner of rtes 30 & 85: Part of a series organized by the Southborough Rotary Club this spring. This night will feature trucks by: DogFather, Traveling Bones, Teddy’s Lunch Box, Grub Guru, and Trombetta’s Ice Cream. For more details, see dedicated post.
  • Art Workshop for Children (3:30 – 5:00 pm) @ Southborough Library, Eaton Meeting Room: Children ages 5-9 are invited to be a part of the drop in art workshops. (Siblings allowed.) This session, the focus is making butterflies and bumblebees . Registration is not required. The workshop is run by Bigelow Center for the Arts’ Lanting Huang-Truong.
  • Trottier Band Concert (7:00 – 9:00 pm) @ Trottier Middle School: 7th & 8th Grade Band, 6th Grade Band, Orchestra, Stage Band and Big Band.

  • Wegmans the Musical 2.0 (7:00 pm) @ Algonquin Regional High School, 79 Bartlett St, Northborough: Drama students are putting on a slightly updated version (with a live all-student pit band) of the original musical created as an Advanced Drama class project in 2013.   • Trottier Big Band on the radio (8:00 am – 12:00 pm): Listen to the Trottier Big Band perform on “The Saturday Swing Session with Howard Caplan” on WICN radio. You can listen to that on 90.5 FM or stream via WICN.org.
  • Friends of the Southborough Library June Book Sale (10:00 am – 3:00 pm) @ Southborough Library: Come to the library book sale and get some bargain books for summer reading. The Friends will host the Annual Book Sale fundraiser outside/inside the library (weather permitting). One free book will be provided for every child in attendance. For more details, see event flyer.
  • Assabet Graduation (11:00 am – 1:00 pm) @ DCU Center in Worcester: The graduation ceremony for Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School.
  • Movie Night & Home Run Derby (3:00 – 10:00 pm) @ Mooney Field complex (the baseball fields at Finn School): Entertainment includes Bounce Houses, Radar Gun Station, Home Run Derbies, and an outdoor screening of Jumanji 2. For schedule and more details, see dedicated post.

I have down Neary’s band concert for Tuesday and Trottier’s for Wednesday. Can you confirm? Thanks!
