High school sectional playoffs are in full swing. So, it’s time for an update on Algonquin teams.
On Monday, ARHS Boys Lacrosse dominated Chicopee Comprehensive in the First Round, 17-4, at 911 Field. Tomorrow, the 3rd seed team will play on its school grounds at 4:30 pm. The Boys will be hoping to best 6th seed Westfield in the Quarter Final.
At the same time, Girls Lacrosse will be playing in their Quarter Finals away. The Firls also dominated in their First Round, 18-5 against East Longmeadow. The 7th seed team will face a bigger challenge on Thursday when it takes on 2nd seed Minnechaug.
2nd seed Volleyball had earned a Bye for its First Round. In an upset, the Boys were shut out 3-0 by 10th seed Lincoln Sudbury in yesterday’s Quarter Finals.
Tennis teams’ Quarter Final matches, originally scheduled for yesterday, were postponed to this afternoon – same time, place and competition:
- 3:00 pm – ARHS Boys Tennis, Quarter Finals of sectional playoffs vs. Shrewsbury High School @ St John’s
- 4:30 pm – ARHS Girls Tennis, Quarter Finals of sectional playoffs vs. Shrewsbury High School @ St John’s
Girls Golf North/Central/West Sectional Championships, initially targeted for Monday, were postponed to this coming Monday, June 11th at Townsend Ridge Country Club, with an 8:30 am shotgun start. (The Algonquin/Westborough team is participating. But, with no reference to the game on the ARHS sports schedule, I’m not sure if any Gonk Golfers will be putting.)
Next week, Girls Rugby playoffs start at the Semi-Finals. Lincoln-Sudbury. 3rd Seed ARHS will play at upperseed Lincoln-Sudbury on Wednesday, June 13th at 4:00 pm.
Algonquin
Brackets just posted for Boys Rugby, Softball and Baseball confirm that Algonquin’s teams didn’t make those playoffs.
At least the girls ended the season on an up note with a 6-2 win at Notre Dame Academy. ARHS Athletics followed up by tweeting their pride for the girls’ grit and determination.
