Transfer Station stickers: Senior drive bys; options for the rest of us (Updated)

Above: Seniors can drive around to the back of the Senior Center in July to get their new Transfer Station stickers applied. The rest of us can head to the Town House or buy them online/through the mail (photos by Susan Fitzgerald)

Tomorrow marks the first day that residents can buy new Transfer Station permits.

Current stickers don’t expire until September. But, if you’re a senior, you’ll probably want to take care of it in July. That’s when the Town Clerk will again be offering an easy drive by option during special hours. (Scroll down for those details).

Non-senior residents again have options for purchasing the sticker online, through the mail, or in person at the Clerk’s office. (Seniors can, too. They just also have a more attractive option if they are in Town this July.)

But, there are some eligibility issues. The main one is being listed on the Town Census. The Town Clerk’s dedicated page notes:

  1. Residents must be listed on the Town Census.
    a. If you are a new resident and you are not listed on the census, you must come to the Clerk’s office to complete a census form and to purchase your sticker. You cannot use the online or mail-in options.
  2. Stickers may not be transferred to, nor used by another resident to avoid the purchase of additional stickers.
  3. Stickers must be used on cars owned by the same family at the same address.
  4. Seniors born on or before 12/31/1953 will not be charged for the first 2 stickers.
  5. Anyone with an unpaid fine will not be issued a Transfer Station sticker.
    a. Contact DPW to pay the fine.

As for how to make the purchase, the website offers options for paying online, by mailed in form. For either of those, expect to receive your sticker in the mail about a week later. Or you can pickup your sticker by paying in person at the Clerk’s office in Town Hall. (Those hours are generally Monday/Wednesday/Thursday 8am – 5pm, Tuesday 8am – 7pm, Friday, 8am-noon.)

I’d just like to point out that when you have to specify something like “no- you cannot tape the sticker to the inside of the windshield”, that means a lot of people are doing it, which means you are doing something wrong.

I personally don’t like outside stickers because it could be removed by a thief or a prankster. But worse is that our stickers are so ugly that I’m embarrassed to have it on my car.
