For some of you, April means baseball season. Local media is already covering Gonk Baseball’s hopes to make it back to playoffs this year.

After the Tomahawks missed the tournament last season for the first time since 2011, Algonquin hopes to return to the postseason under new head coach Brian Doherty.
“He’s been helping out Coach (Mike Mocerino) for the last few years, so he has been around and he knows what he’s doing,” Algonquin junior pitcher Levi Carter-Frem said of the Tomahawks’ new coach. “I think he’s going to do a great job of leading this team.”
Doherty been an assistant baseball coach with former head coach Mike Mocerino for the last seven seasons. . .
″(Coach Neil Burke and Mocerino) set the foundation for the program,” Doherty said. “I’ve learned a lot through both of them, so I take bits and pieces of everything that they do. If it’s not broke, don’t fix it and they both have been very, very successful.”
Still Doherty, who also coached the Algonquin boys basketball team to back-to-back sectional final appearances, will put his own twist on things. (read more)
Last week, Baseball played in what they tweeted was a “solid” scrimmage. They weren’t alone. Boys Lacrosse boasted of two scrimmage wins last week.
