Senior Center field trips this summer: Bus trips and Trailblazer hikes

Above: Seniors in Southborough can join a lighthouse cruise and a museum tour. But since these are bus trips, they should act quickly. (images cropped from Facebook, L-R by Rhode Island Bay Lighthouse Cruises and American Heritage Museum)

The Southborough Senior Center is offering some special fun for older residents over the summer. While two of their big upcoming events already have waitlists, some trips this month are still open for signup. But act quickly if you want to get in on a bus trip.

Bus trips*:

  • Lighthouse Cruise with a hike and picnic – July 18th
  • American Heritage Museum Tour – July 23rd

There are also 4 more upcoming trips by carpool. Both the July 18th event and the other hikes below are organized by the Trailblazers for active seniors. Be prepared to do some walking on those.

Below are the highlights. To sign up for any of these, call the Senior Center soon at 508-229-4453.

Tuesday, July 23rd – The American Heritage Museum Tour and Lunch

American Heritage Museum from FacebookFor members of Friends of the Council on Aging only. (Not a member yet? Sign up for only $15/yr)**; Suggested Donation of $25*; Bus from Senior Center leaves at 9:30 am for a 10:00 am to 12:30 pm tour at the museum in Hudson followed by lunch in Marlborough:

Retrace American History from the Revolutionary War, through the wars of the 20th Century, to today. The American Heritage Museum honors the heritage of our soldiers and their fight for American freedom over the years. Walk among eighty-five rare tanks, military vehicles and large artifacts, comprising one of the largest collections of its type in the world. Trace technological advances in the battlefield, see the sequence of their progression and develop an understanding of its relevance today. Immerse yourself in the exhibits, surrounded by authentic and restored machinery while listening to the voices of soldiers who served bravely in the United States military. Learn more at www.AmericanHeritageMuseum.org.

We will then board the bus to the Bolton Street Tavern in Marlborough where you will enjoy a Lunch Buffet of Greek Salad, Roasted Chicken, Lasagna, Veggie Alfredo , Coffee/Tea Station and dessert. After lunch we will board the bus back to the Senior Center.

(You can find the flyer for the above event here.)

More Trailblazer events include one this week and next. Since they aren’t by bus, sign up is requested but less advance notice is needed to make the cut. Times below refer to when carpoolers should meet at the Senior Center:

  • Bay Circuit Trail Hikes – Thursdays at 9:30 am on July 11th and August 8th (free)
  • Westborough Trolley Trail Walk – Monday July 15th at 9:30 (Lunch afterwards at own expense)

You can find the full details on the above Trailblazer events here.

In addition, I’m told they are still taking waitlist signups for the upcoming Alpaca event at the Senior Center next Wednesday (details here) or the Newbury Banquet Room dinner on August 22nd (details here.)

*The Bus Trips are subject to the Senior Center’s Bus Program Registration Policy:

Payment for programs needs to be made one week after signing up or unfortunately you will be taken off the list. Cancellations for Bus Trips require two full weeks’ notice or we are unable to give refunds. We are obligated to prepay all the costs of our buses and tickets, etc.
