I’m overdue in sharing Algonquin’s Thanksgiving Day victory one week ago.

Following two years of losing the annual match to Westborough, the T-Hawks recaptured the big trophy. They earned it with a 24-7 victory. Wicked Local covered the 67th annual game:

Algonquin junior running back Rio Ferguson said he doesn’t really care if he touches the football as long as his team wins.

Tomahawks third year coach Taylor Allen respectfully begs to differ.

“The game plan was to give Rio the ball 30 times,” Allen said.

Ferguson didn’t touch it 30 times, but he did get 25 rushes for 260 yards and a touchdown while catching one ball for five yards to help lead Algonquin to a 24-7 win over Westborough in front of an announced crowd of 9,310 in the 67th annual Thanksgiving Day clash.

“He does a great job,” Allen said of Ferguson. “He gets stronger and stronger as the game goes on. That’s the way he prepares himself. He’s the fastest and he’s one of the best.” (read more)

ARHS Athletics tweeted photos from the annual pre-Turkey Day pep rally, the team celebrating the victory, and the ten new inductees to Algonquin’s Athletic Hall of Fame last weekend:
