Free Movie Nights – Tuesdays in August (Updated – Plans completely revamped)

Above: Rec had released the lineup of movies to be screened this summer, starting with Toy Story 4. That’s all changed as of August 10th.

[Editor’s Note: The plans below have been completely revamped based on changed orders from the Governor on allowed gathering sizes. See dedicated post for new info.]

Southborough Recreation is launching the long awaited outdoor movie series. Starting next week, the movies will be screened on Tuesday nights through August. The announced children’s movies are all rated G to PG.

Movie Nights posterAttendance is free with no registration required. Attendees are asked to bring their own chairs or blankets.

Attendees will also be asked to follow Social Distancing guidelines. Face coverings will be required when attendees aren’t seated. (That means if your family is settled at a distance from other attendees, you can temporarily remove your masks.)

During a Recreation Commission Meeting earlier this summer, Director Tim Davis explained that he would be using the large athletic field area at Neary School. (Not the side normally used for concerts.)

Movies will begin at dusk (about 8:00 pm). The schedule is:

August 4- Toy Story 4

August 11 – Frozen II

August 18 – Wreck It Ralph 2

August 25 – Trolls World Tour

Movie run times vary, but all are under 2 hours.

Updated (7/2/20 9:28 am): Emails from Tim Davis added a couple of details.

Rec will be implementing markers on the grass for families to sit safely with others in the community.

Porta-potties will be available. But, it sounds like trash cans won’t be. Families will be asked to take their trash with them when they leave.

Rec is looking into the possibility of food trucks at the events, but none are confirmed yet. So stay tuned for more details.

Updated (8/10/20 9:16 am): Toy Story 4 was indefinitely postponed due to a storm that night. The new date has yet to be posted. I saw a different scheduled issued for the following three weeks (the same movies in different order). I’m waiting for clarification on which schedule is correct. Plus, a new detail posted is that the school grounds have been sprayed for mosquitoes.

Updated (8/11/20 8:39 am): The movie will now be a drive-in with capped attendance. And the event will no longer be weekly. See dedicated post for details.
