On Tuesday, the home of a Southborough family was heavily damaged in a fire. Today, a fundraising page was launched to support the family.

On the GoFundMe page, Selectman Lisa Braccio explains:

On 2/16/2021, a fire destroyed the Kalyanaraman’s home in Southborough, MA. Everyone was able to get out safely but unfortunately, they lost everything. Ashvin and his mother are staying with family until they can find temporary housing. They plan to rebuild their home as soon as possible. Not surprising, lots of Southborough residents as well as surrounding Towns have stepped up with offers to help, and the family is incredibly grateful for such an amazing community. At this time, they could use some financial help with necessities, monthly bills, etc. Any help you can give them is greatly appreciated and gives them some breathing room as they rebuild their lives.

[Selectman Chelsea Malinowski] and I are grateful, as the organizers, for any help you can provide. We will provide updates from the Family as they become available.

Following the news breaking on Facebook, community members started inquiring how they could offer support. Earlier this week, Braccio informed me that Town officials had reached out to the family. She shared:

[The family is] overwhelmed at the level of support that they have been shown and wanted us to share their thanks to the Community. The Southborough Emergency Fund has supplied the family with some initial assistance.

At that point, the family wanted to take a couple of days to think about their needs and how to proceed. Today, she updated:

we are in the process of creating a GoFundMe for anyone that would like to donate to help give this family some breathing room as they navigate the process to rebuild their lives after losing everything. They plan to rebuild as quickly as they can and are just so grateful for all the support they have been shown.
