Obituary: Kathryn (Fitzgerald) Murdock, 84

Kathryn (Fitzgerald) Murdock, 84, of Marlborough and formerly a long time resident of Southborough, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 26, 2021 at her home, after a two year illness, with her two sons by her side.

She was the beloved wife of Robert J. Murdock who died in 1996 and was a Korean War Naval veteran. They were married for 37 years.

Kathy was a 1954 graduate of St Peter High School in Worcester. For many years she worked as the administrator for the former Marist House in Framingham, retiring in June of 1999. Kathy was a devoted member of St Anne Church in Southborough where she taught CCD for a number of years and later served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was an avid reader and was a member of Friends of the Southborough Library. Kathy and Bob had a trailer in Rhode Island where they would spend summers laughing, telling stories and enjoying their good friends and the outdoors. For most of her life, she and her family loved going to the beach where she could be found sitting in her chair with a good book in the sun. In her later years, she would often take trips to nearby Foxwoods casino and “try her luck”. She was also a member of a weekly bowling league for many years and loved her post bowling lunches with the ladies.

Kathy’s greatest joy throughout her life was spending time with her extended family and closest friends. Over the years, holidays, birthdays and special events were celebrated with family and friends as joyful raucous events. Year after year Rob and Kathy would pack up the car with Bobby and Sean, pets and luggage and head to Marshfield for the traditional Murdock vacation at the Fanning cottage. The vacations always included visits and overnights from each other’s brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, gramma and grandpa.

She is survived by her sons, Robert F. Murdock and his wife Sarah of Scituate; Sean E. Murdock of Marlborough; her siblings, James S. Fitzgerald of Dudley; Anne E. Murdock of Worcester; her grandson Robbie F. Murdock of Scituate and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her siblings, M. Marie Fitzgerald of Worcester; William R. Fitzgerald of Montauk, NY; Edward J Fitzgerald of Annapolis, MD and Joseph U. Fitzgerald Jr of Boylston.
