Here are highlights of what’s happening around town this week.

  • Walking Group for Seniors (8:30 am) @ Trottier Middle School’s outdoor track: Free walking group organized by the Southborough Senior Center, see newsletter. Walkers generally go for an hour, but continue for as long as you wish. The location is a loop, so feel free to join late.
  • Stretch Break Class for seniors (10:15 am) @ Southborough Senior Center: For details on weekly class, see newsletter.
  • Preschool Story Time (10:30 – 11:15 am) @ Southborough Library Children’s Room: Join Miss Kim for stories and craft based on a weekly theme. No registration required.
  • Youth Writing Club (3:30 -4:30 pm) @ zoom: The Southborough Library is hosting this virtual creative writing club for ages 10-18. The zoom sessions are a fun and supportive space to get creative and build skills with peers. For details, see dedicated post.

  • Tuesday Tech Time (4:00 – 5:00 pm) @ Southborough Library Teen Room: Need help with technology? Library staff and teen volunteers will make every effort to assist you. Bring questions about ebooks and electronic resources. This is a drop in event; no registrations necessary. Sessions are limited to no more than 1 hour.
  • Poetry Workshop (6:30 – 8:30 pm) @ Southborough Library: Bi-monthly meeting open to all. Bring your original poetry to share for constructive feedback. For details, see Library website.
  • Trauma Free Communities (7:00 pm) @ zoom: Movie Discussion Group over zoom about the Community Watch movies screened on May 21st at the Southborough Library. (Registration will be offered to Community Watch attendees)

  • Finn Walk to School Day (8:30 am) @21 Highland St: Walk with other Finn students and parents as a group (or walk with an adult from home). For details, families should check the Thursday packet.

  • Young Scientists STEM Beginnings (10:30 – 11:30 am) @ Southborough Library Children’s Room: A free in-person series for children, ages 3-6 to learn STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) concepts through hands-on activities, story time and simple experiments. The program through the Southborough Library is sponsored by the YMCA Family & Community Partnership.
  • Food Truck Festival (3:30 – 7:0 pm) @ St. Mark’s meadow (corner of Rte 85 and Rte 30): A community event series organized by the Southborough Rotary Club featuring several food trucks offering a variety of cuisines. (It also includes a fundraiser for Southborough camp scholarships.) For details, including this week’s truck lineup, see dedicated post.
  • Resume Workshop (4:00 – 5:00 pm) @ Southborough Library, main floor: Learn about what to include on your resume, where to put it, how to phrase it and more. Bringing a personal laptop is suggested, but chrome books are also available. Participants can also try out the library resume builder application. No registration required.   • Rotary Honors Service (6:00 pm) @ St. Mark’s meadow (corner of Rte 85 and Rte 30): Rotary will make a presentation to honor “Southborough residents recognized as individuals who are significant contributors to the well-being of our community.” The public is invited to attend or “stop by later to congratulate honorees to show your appreciation.” It takes place during the first night of the Food Truck Festival.

  • Rotary Interact Club (for teens) (7:30 – 8:30 pm) @ Southborough Library, upper level: For ages 12-18 years old. Take action, build international understanding, and make new friends around the world. Interact clubs bring together young people to develop leadership skills while discovering the power of Service Above Self. Find out how serious leadership can be seriously fun.

  • Dull Men’s Club (10:00 am) @ zoom: Casual social club for senior men. New members are always welcome to drop in. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Flag placement for Memorial Day (6:00 – 7:00 pm) @ Rural Cemetery, Cordaville Road/Route 85: Residents are invited to participate in placing fresh flags on the graves of our Veterans to honor their service to our nation. Volunteers are asked to gather in advance in front of the stone structure by the maintenance building at the back of the cemetery.

Monday, May 30, 2021 – Memorial Day

  • Schools and Public offices closed for the federal holiday.
  • Veterans gathering for Memorial Day (8:30 am) @ VFW/Legion Post Headquarters, Community House, 28 Main Street: Parade convenes at Main St Bank and proceeds down Main St, left onto Cordaville Road, and through the Town’s cemeteries, ending at the Memorial at the Common. This year, the public is invited to take part again and follow along. Distancing and face masks will be at the discretion of the individual.
  • Memorial Day Ceremony (9:00 am) @ Parade of veterans, scouts, and school bands convenes in Main St Bank parking lot, then proceeds down Main St, left onto Cordaville Road, and through the Town’s cemeteries, with ceremonies along the way to remember veterans laid to rest. As usual, the public is encouraged to follow along. Observances will end at the All Wars Memorial with the traditional speakers and ARHS singers.
