Safe Spaces making the holidays welcoming for LGBT Asylum seekers

Southborough's youth program members and volunteers have been stuffing stockings for asylum seekers in Worcester

[Blogging by the window on a day this wet, windy, and grey tends to dampen my spirits. But I got a boost this morning when I found two examples of community members spreading Holiday Cheer. Here’s the second.]

This season, members and supporters of Southborough Safe Spaces have been working to stuff Christmas Stockings full of “Queer Cheer” for asylum seekers in Worcester.

Youth members will finish off that project at their 2nd Annual Holi-gay party tomorrow night.

December 3rd Mission Queer Cheer flyerOn the first Saturday in December, youth volunteers came together to assemble stockings for Worcester LGBT Asylum Seekers. Thanks to generous donations, they were able to purchase 40 “pride stockings” and supplies to stuff them.

On Facebook, organizers encouraged the public to purchase additional goodies to increase the joy. Now, this Saturday, youth members will wrap up the project at their holiday party:

As with most of the group’s events, the fun will take place at Pilgrim Church, 15 Common Street.
