Girls Ice Hockey last standing in state tourneys; Titan Wrestler wins New England Championship

Two more Algonquin teams fell out of the tourneys. But one more team is still battling it out for the state title.

In Ice Hockey, ARHS Girls beat lower seed Dedham 4-3 in the Sweet 16 last night. Brooke Cutler, Olivia Bower, Madelyn Glynn and Emily Johns each scored and Kaitlin Mathews was credited with 24 saves.

The 5th seed Titans will now face off with #4 Canton in the Round of 8. Canton is one of only three teams that the Girls lost to this season. That game is scheduled for Thursday, March 9th at 7:00 at Canton Ice House. (Look for tickets to be sold here.)

The Round of 16 wasn’t as sweet for the ARHS Boys. They were defeated by lower seed Wakefield Memorial on Saturday. The Telegram recapped their 2-3 loss:

Jack Doolan and Dylan Beard scored in the second period, but No. 10 Wakefield scored in the third period to upend the No. 7 Titans. . . Jack Stiles made 22 saves for Algonquin.

Last Thursday night, ARHS Girls Basketball went up against 4th seed Wachusett in the Round of 32 game. According to the Telegram, the Mountaineers dominated the game, beating the Titans 67-21. (You can read about that here.)

In other sports that are finished for this winter. . . 

ARHS’ top Wrestler Rafael Knapp nabbed a New England Championship title for his weight class over the weekend. According to the Telegram, he’s the 2nd wrestler in school history to win the honor. (You can read more here.)

Cheer from Regional Championship tweeted by ARHS AthleticsCheerleading came in 5th place at the Division 1 Central MA Regional Championships on Sunday.

Results have been posted from Wednesday’s State Alpine Ski Tournament. Algonquin’s top performers were Michael Desio who came in 12th for the Boys Giant Slalom and Julia Utzschneide who came in 17th for the Girls (plus #24 for Slalom).
