Select Board to interview potential DPW Superintendent Monday (Updated)

An in-person only session interview is scheduled, for an unnamed candidate.

The Select Board has scheduled a meeting to interview an unnamed candidate for head of the Public Works Department. The agenda is for an in-person only meeting on Monday afternoon.

The open meeting is scheduled to be held in the Town House Hearing Room at 3:30 pm on April 10th. The public can attend. However, the format is a change both from the initial agenda and from the board’s general practice. No zoom option is listed for streaming the meeting.

The agenda allows the Board to vote on hiring at the meeting. However, an agenda for their 6:30 meeting that evening (which will be streamed) also allows a potential vote on the appointment.

Former DPW Superintendent Karen Galligan’s last day was in January. The Town began work to recruit her replacement after her resignation in October. In January, the board interviewed two finalists and made an offer to Stoughton’s Water & Sewer Superintendent Phil McNulty. He apparently first accepted then withdrew after getting a better offer to stay in his job.

In February, the board rebooted the search and contracted a municipal recruiter for $9,000* to help fill the vacant position. In subsequent discussions, Town Administrator Mark Purple assured the board that Recruiter Bernie Lynch agreed that he wouldn’t consider the contract completed unless a finalist actually takes the job.

Updated (4/10/23 12:51 pm): I was informed that the location was updated on the Town website. The meeting will take place at the Public Safety Building, in the training room. In looking at that, I also discovered that a packet was posted with information on candidate William J. Cundiff, Spencer’s Superintendent of Utilities and Facilities.
