This week is the Mid-Wach League Championships for Swimming and Diving. Boys Swimming will head into it still undefeated.

Below are more highlights from last week’s and upcoming competitions in Algonquin Regional High School sports.

Last week, the Boys Swimming team racked up two more wins over AMSA (94-71) and Tantasqua (92-78). The Girls also beat the schools (98-69 and 101-74), improving their swim record to 5-4.

In both meets, Axel Soderquist won the 50 and 100 freestyles and Mina Chung won the 100 breaststroke and butterfly. Against AMSA, Max Achkinavi won the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle, Branden Yan won the 100 backstroke and 200 individual medley, and Elizabeth Walsh won the 500 freestyle and 200 individual medley.

This week is also the League Championships for Indoor Track. At last week’s MSTCA Coaches Invitational, Algonquin’s Olivia LaBelle won the Girls 55m Hurdles. The Girls team also won the 4×200 Meter Relay.  For the full results for Girls and Boys, click here. Photo highlights taken by Algonquin student Laura White were featured in the Boston Globe. Last week, both Gonk Basketball teams had an uneven week and losing records. They only have three weeks left to qualify for the state tourneys, something that currently looks especially out of reach for the boys.

On Tuesday, Boys Basketball beat Westford Academy 55-54 and the Girls beat Notre Dame Academy 64-59. But on Friday night, both lost Shrewsbury, the Boys 58-55 and the Girls 41-25. Before the latest loss, the Boys already fell three slots in the Division 1 Power Rankings to #47. The Girls remained at #39.

Ice Hockey teams also had an uneven week, but still appear bound to make the playoffs. The Boys tied Grafton 2-2 before beating Hopedale 6-1. They are still #17 in Division 2. The Girls beat Leominster 4-1, but lost to Pope Francis 3-1. They are #11 in D2.

At Gymnastics‘ home meet last Thursday, the girls came in first place again. With a score of 139.15, they beat Groton Dunstable (138 ) and Shrewsbury (136.35)

MetroWest Daily News covered the meet and the team’s enthusiasm this season:

“Every single meet we’ve had this season, we’ve increased our score significantly,” [Coach Angela] Keith said. “Every meet builds off of each other and we just take that energy from the previous meet and bring it with us to the next meet and that’s taken us very far.”

On Saturday, Algonquin Wrestling competed in Methuen’s Invitational. They didn’t win, but team member Rafael Knapp did wrestle his way into the Semi-Finals. Earlier in the week, Tyngsborough posted a video from their Wrestling meet. It captured the Titans losing 15-54.

As usual, no results appear to have been posted for the Ski team.

Now, here are the ARHS varsity games on tap for the week:
