The Trash Pit is temporarily closed for repairs, but the station is still open for regular hours, including to dump most trash.

Updated (3/7/24 2:12 pm): The Transfer Station repairs have been completed. According to an announcement by the Town this afternoon, the station is back to business as usual after all.

Last month, Southborough’s DPW issued a notification of plans to “repair” the Transfer Station Trash pit. The work was scheduled to begin this past Monday and take approximately one week.

That doesn’t mean you won’t be able to dump any trash during that window. But there are different rules and procedures. And it may make you adjust your plans for when to stop by.

According to the announcement, bins will be set up for refuse. But they won’t accept “large items” or loose trash.

The process could prompt longer lines than usual, including to access the recycling area, especially on Saturday, March 9th. If you can, you may want to swing by with trash before the weekend, or wait until next week.

The DPW notice explained the process that is temporarily in place:

PROCEDURE
A row of small dumpsters will be aligned along the stone retaining wall near the transfer station building (see map by clicking the image below). Cars will pull up adjacent to the dumpsters and will unload their waste into the dumpster.

During this time ONLY bagged trash or barrels will be accepted, NO Large Items will be allowed

SAFETY
Your safety is our priority! Accordingly, please be patient and proceed as directed by the onsite attendant. You may be requested to wait while other vehicles are being off loaded. Do not try to maneuver your vehicle around other users to get into the open space. Stay in line and wait your turn.

If possible adjust your schedule to come by Wed. – Fri. or expect delays on Saturday. We will have additional personnel available to assist if needed.

Anyone with questions is encouraged to contact the DPW Office at 508-485-1210.
