Since I last posted, one Algonquin teams earned a spot in the Sweet 16, while two other teams fell out of the state playoffs. Here is the latest in Gonk sports.

On Saturday, Algonquin & Grafton Baseball went into extra innings in the Round of 32 Division 2 playoffs. The Community Advocate recapped the excitement:

After 11 innings and approximately three hours of MIAA Division 2 baseball, the No. 8 Algonquin Titans and No. 25 Grafton Gators were knotted at four runs apiece in the win-or-go-home Round of 32 matchup. With the season hanging in the balance – and with runners on first and second – [Tighe Clark] stepped up to the plate, and on the first pitch, lined the ball into left field to give his team a walk-off, 5-4, victory.

Tomorrow, the 8th seed Titans will host #9 Westwood in the next round.

As I write this post, #19 Boys Lacrosse is at #14 Plymouth South, battling it out in their D2 Round of 32.

As for the teams that are already out of the playoffs. . . Girls Lacrosse lost to upper seed Westborough 11-8 on Friday. On Saturday, Boys Rugby followed. The 7th seed team lost to second seed Hanover 62-7 in the Round of 8.

As I’ve previously posted, 2nd seed Girls Rugby will enter the small D1 tourney on June 7th at 6:30 pm.. The Final Four game will be against #3 Weymouth at the Gonkplex.

Although Outdoor Track‘s MIAA Meet of Champions already took place over the weekend, the results have yet to be posted. You can check for details here.

Reminder, tickets for any playoff games which require them should be sold here.

Updated (6/4/24 9:31 am): I accidentally gave Tighe Clarke the last name Cobbs in the caption. (Ty Cobb was in recent news about being replaced as the all-time batting leader. I assume that’s why my brain made an incorrect autocorrect while I was typing!) Sorry, Tighe.
