ARHS sports Post-Season Update

It’s time for another update on Algonquin’s success (and failures) in post-season tourneys.

Top seed ARHS Boys Rugby won their Division 2 quarter finals against 8th seed Chelmsford, 47-19 on Thursday night.

The boys advance to the semi-finals against 4th seed Brookline. They’ll play at home (on the back field) this Friday, June 5th at 6:00 pm.

As I previously posted, ARHS Girls Tennis was the first Gonk tennis team to win an MIAA Round of 32 game since the MIAA reformatted the playoffs in 2021-22. Boys Tennis repeated that success on Thursday night.

The 10th seed Boys Tennis shutout #23 Quincy 5-0 in the D2 tourney. They posted the news on Instagram:

They’ll advance to the Sweet 16, challenging 7th seed Sharon. That’s 3:15 pm on June 3rd at Sharon High.

The 21st seed Girls team faces an even bigger challenge in their Division 1 tourney tomorrow. They’ll travel to take on 5th seed Lexington on June 2nd at 4:00 pm.

Sadly for 22nd seed Girls Lacrosse, the team lost its D1 Round of 32 to 11th seed Billerica Memorial, 6-10. On a happier recent note for the team — last month, the team celebrated coach Emma Davis’ 100th win.

The Outdoor Track & Field teams competed in the D2 Track & Field Championships.

The Girls team scored 5th place out of 25. The Girls’ Tanvi Mehta who won the 400 meter Hurdles. Freshman Charlotte Lipka finished 2nd place for the Triple Jump — plus 1st place for the High Jump as part of her competition in the Pentathlon that ran alongside the event. She scored 6th place overall for the Pentathlon. Senior Niamh O’Sullivan didn’t finish all of the Pentathlon events, but earned 3rd place its High Jump.

For the Boys, senior Brandon Charles scored 5th overall in the Pentathlon, aided by his 1st place for the High Jump. For the Track & Field Championships, the Boys team scored 20th of 27.

O’Sullivan will compete in the Division 2 Pentathlon this week for the Gonk Girls. The Boys will be represented by Charles Brandon. That will take place alongside the , which members from both teams will compete in. The competitions open at 3:00 pm on Friday, May 29th at Merrimack College.

The Meet of Champions is scheduled for this Thursday, June 4th and Saturday, June 6th, 3:00 pm at Merrimack College. Several members of each team are scheduled to compete.
