Saturday’s SOLF Walk won’t feature Mushrooms after all!

Previously, I helped promote the Southborough Open Land Foundation’s 2 hour guided “Mushroom Walk and Talk” planned for this Saturday. The non-profit is shifting gears after learning that focus wouldn’t be ideal for a walk this weekend. They are still welcoming anyone interested in joining them to “Come and enjoy the fall weather with us” as they walk Beals Preserve.

According to the update from SOLF, the dry weather we’ve enjoyed over the past two weeks wasn’t great for mushrooms. The “mushroom enthusiast” they had booked to lead the walk advised them that the property currently has “slim pickings” for a two hour walk.

But, autumn is a beautiful time of year to explore the open space preserve. So anyone who would like to join the guided walk can meet SOLF volunteers at the kiosk at 10:00 am. (Scroll down for more details on where to meet.) The walk should last until about noon.

As previously promoted by SOLF, since the event is on Halloween morning, “costumes are welcome”.

For those that are disappointed that the walk won’t be to seek out mushrooms — SOLF is working on rescheduling the original event with naturalist Jonathan Kranz for sometime next year.

Map for meeting and parkingTo join them: The walking group will gather at the kiosk across the bridge from Beals Preserve Main Street Field. The parking area on Main Street (Route 30) is closed for remediation, but there is parking on the very wide shoulder, across the street at the corner of Northborough Road and Main Street, as well at the Chestnut Hill Farm hiking parking lot on nearby Chestnut Hill Road. For directions, put “Beals Preserve Main Street Field Parking” into any map application.
