[Results from last week’s competitions, media highlights, and what’s on tap this week in Algonquin Regional High School varsity sports.]
MIAA posted brackets for the state championship Football tournaments. Despite losing their fifth straight game on Friday night (22-57 to Wachusett), the Titans made the playoffs.
The ARHS team is ranked #13 for Division 2. They’re scheduled to travel to Chelmsford this Friday to take on the #4 team.
Last week, Sports Photographer Jeff Slovin posted photos from the team’s Senior Night:

And, despite the loss on Friday, based on Slovin’s post from that night, students enjoyed attending the costume-themed night.

ARHS Field Hockey ended their regular season with just a 6-10-2 record. But they’re assured a place in MIAA’s Division 1 championship tournament. The team was ranked #21 for D1 in the most recent Power Rankings. That was before they tied Hopkinton 2-2 on Friday. They also lost 2-3 to Medway and beat Westborough 5-0 earlier in the week.

Brackets will be posted tomorrow for the Field Hockey tourneys to kick off this Thursday. So, stay tuned for news later this week on ARHS’ schedule.
Girls Soccer has one more regular season game this evening. The outcome will impact where they stand in the rankings to be posted this Thursday.
The Girls are currently ranked #25 in Division 1. It’s unlikely that even a big loss in tonight’s game would knock them out of the top 32. Last week, they tied Tahanto Regional 0-0 and Douglas High 1-1, updating their record to 5-6-6.
Boys Soccer has one more game in its schedule today. That will be the final one they play this year.
As I wrote last week, the Titans Boys couldn’t afford to lose any of their last four games if they wanted to make the D1 tourney. Since then, they lost two games and tied one (2-4 to Westborough, 0-2 to Acton-Boxborough, and 1-1 with Bishop Feehan).
Their record is currently 4-9-4, and they are only ranked #45 for D1. (They would need to surge up in the rankings to #32 for their record to not disqualify them.)
Girls Volleyball also won’t make the cut for playoffs. It turns out that team didn’t actually have the chance I wrote they did last week.
Last Monday, I posited that if the Gonk Girls won both of their remaining games, they could bring their 7-9 record up to 9-9. That would earn them a place in the Division 1 tourneys. That stat was based on the Telegram misreporting Algonquin as having beaten Medway 3-2 on October 22nd. It turns out, the Titans lost 2-3 to Medway.1
With two more losses last week (0-3 to Nipmuc and 1-3 to Acton-Boxborough), the team is ending its season with just a 6-11 record. Ranked just #35 for D1, they won’t make the brackets to be posted this week.
Now, here are the ARHS varsity games on tap for this week.2

- I don’t know if I missed that ARHS’ Athletics website had a different stat and outcome for Volleyball than the Telegram, or if Algonquin originally misreported and later corrected their score.
