Obituary: Bryan Thomas Vogel, PsyD.

Bryan Thomas Vogel, PsyD, of Southborough, MA, formerly of Pittsburgh, PA. Beloved husband of Laura D. Hallett, MD, and loving son of Barbara Jo (Hahn) Vogel and the late Thomas G. Vogel. Cherished son-in-law of Robert G. Hallett and Joanne M. Donovan, MD, of Needham, MA, and brother-in-law of Christopher Hallett and Cara Slaby of Lincoln and Katie Hallett of Needham. Loving uncle to Luca, Cory and Adeline Hallett. Survived by numerous caring family and friends.

Bryan was born (or “hatched” as he would put it) in Huntington, West Virginia, and lived in Virginia for the first eight years of his life, but he would tell you he grew up in Pittsburgh.  He was close with his parents, Barbara Jo and Tom. From a young age, his humor and warmth drew everyone he met to him.

Bryan grew up wanting to be a psychologist. After losing his father far too early at age twelve, his experience with therapists, as well as neighbors and friends who reached out with kindness, made a great impression on him. He was determined to become a psychologist to help people who were experiencing the same loss, grief and loneliness that he did. He attended Duquesne University as an undergraduate and then Chatham for his doctorate in psychology – he had both schools’ insignias tattooed on his leg. He wanted to work with underserved populations, and spent his internship in Alaska serving people with very low access to mental health care.

Bryan moved to New Hampshire after internship, where he joined LifeStance and made a warm circle of friends. In 2019, he met his wife, Laura, and moved to Southborough, MA, to be with her in 2021. They married in 2023. He became the new favorite child of her parents, especially her dad Bob, and was welcomed with open arms by her friends, who became his friends, just as his friends became Laura’s. He loved becoming an uncle to his nephews and niece, Luca, Cory and Adeline.

Bryan was happiest when playing board games (and sharing Scotch) with friends or family, video gaming, watching movies, gardening, spending time with Laura and with their cat, Penelope, who was usually found lying on his arm or his chest. He was passionate about cooking for the people he loved. He was a wonderful gift giver, delighting in finding the perfect gift that made the recipient feel seen and loved. He took great joy in finding ways to improve Laura’s life, and in spending time with his mom and taking care of her. He cared greatly for his patients and was dedicated to his work. He had an unfailing love for Laura, his friends, his family, his cat, and his life.

He will be missed by all who knew him.
