Southborough Police Cite Driver Following Weekend Pedestrian Crash

Chief Ryan Newell reports that the Southborough Police Department cited a driver following a pedestrian crash that left a 2-year-old injured on Saturday. On Saturday, Oct. 25, at about 10:35 a.m., Southborough Police responded to a report of a crash involving a pedestrian in the area of 33 Main St.

When they arrived, officers learned that a family of four was crossing Main Street in a crosswalk when the father and his 2-year-old son were struck by a Ford Escape SUV. The boy was treated at the scene by the Southborough Fire Department, then transported to a local hospital with injuries that are believed to be non-life-threatening. The father was not injured.

The driver, identified as [an 85 yr old Wayland resident], remained on scene. The preliminary investigation indicates that [the driver] did not slow down while the family was in the crosswalk and struck the boy.

[The driver] will be cited on charges of Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle and a Crosswalk Violation. The Southborough Police Department filed an immediate threat suspension request with the Registry of Motor Vehicles.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
