[The Boston Marathon always includes a pack of runners from our town. Between now and Patriots Day, I’m featuring stories of resident runners donning bibs for a cause this year.]
Four years after running his third Boston Marathon Southborough’s Jim Haugen died from lung cancer. Now his son Nick Haugen is running in his father’s memory and for the fight against cancer.
Haugen is raising funds for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute:
Defy Cancer. Run Boston.
I am excited to announce that I am running the 2026 Boston Marathon with the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge Team!
My dad was diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer in 2019, and I witnessed the incredible work of Dana-Farber firsthand while he underwent treatment there.
My dad introduced me to running at a young age. Even after he passed, running has always been a special connection I share with him. My dad ran the Boston Marathon in 2013, 2014, and 2015. I am extremely excited to run it for the first time with the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, the organization that showed him and my whole family compassion and support throughout his treatment.
One hundred percent of every dollar donated supports the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. These funds are fueling some of today’s most promising cancer research.
The 2026 Boston Marathon is my chance to give back to Dana-Farber and to commemorate my dad. Any amount is appreciated and your support means the world to me!
