Southborough Kindergroup is recruiting new members — families with children under 5 years old. (Act quickly to take part in some of the activities coming up very soon!)
As a nostalgic former member, I’m happy to spread the word. But I thought it would be helpful to explain to unfamiliar readers how the playgroup works. When I communicated with their membership Director about that, I learned that it’s changed quite a bit since my old days.
Over the years, the group has continued to evolve to meet the changing needs of families. These days, membership and participation is quite flexible.
But at it’s core, the benefit appears to be the same. Parents with young children become part of a local social community — helping to build friendships that can last for decades.
For parents and kids Kindergroup offers:
- Playgroup that meets twice a month at Fay on Fridays
- Monthly Field Trips (like apple picking, pizza making, touring the fire station, nature walks)
- Dedicated meetups for the very little ones (baby storytime, walks at local parks, etc)
In addition, the group holds social events for just the adults. Those include:
- Mom/Dad Nights Outs (enjoying apps and drinks at local restaurants, or activities like paintball or cheese tasting)
- Social events (spa night, mahjong, book club)
- Holiday celebrations (last season included Mothers Day at Broken Creek Winery, a Father’s Day event, and a summer party at Lalo’s)
Members are also invited to join the committees that plan and run Kindergroup’s three big annual community events (free and open to the entire community):
Kindergroup is hoping for families to join by October 1st, although anyone can join year-round. For the 2026-2027 season, registration is $75 per family, with an optional add-on Playgroup membership at $40 per year per family.

The group also shared a Fall Events Preview (right). The September events are already behind us, but the list of October events includes playgroups and playground meetups, a Spa Night, Oktoberfest, Mom’s and Dad’s Night Outs, Dad’s Paintball Event, Puddlestompers Event, participating in the Heritage Day Parade. (Events and listed dates are subject to change.)
