The week in ARHS sports

[Results from last week’s competitions, media highlights, and what’s on tap this week in Algonquin Regional High School varsity sports.]

Last week was another rough one for Algonquin varsity sports. Although, for the school’s team that had the worst record this fall, last week was a pretty good one.

ARHS Field Hockey entered last week with a 1-7 record. Last week, they earned a 1-0 win over Wachusett and 1-1 tie with Leominster. Unfortunately, they kicked off this week with a 0-1 loss tonight against Acton-Boxborough.

That updated their record to 2-8-1. They’re ranked 8#27 for Division 1 (as of Tuesday morning.)

Girls Cross Country won its second meet of the season against Shepherd Hill last week, updating their record to 2-2. Boys Cross Country also won, updating their meet record to 4-0.

Boys Golf won two out of three competitions last week and another one this afternoon. The team beat Oakmont and Hopkinton, but lost to Acton-Boxborough in between. And today they beat Marlborough. Their record is now 7-8.

Other teams didn’t fare as well.

ARHS Football suffered its second straight loss. The Sentinel covered the action in Friday’s tight 15-13 game. You can read about that here.

The team is now 3-2 for the season and Power Ranked #10 for Division 2. As things currently stand, they qualify for the playoffs thanks to the three wins. (They’ll have to stay in the top 16, so it’s not a sure thing.) The Titans will hope to have better results at their Homecoming Game this Friday.

ARHS Boosters Soccer BBQ from ARHS newsletterSpeaking of the Homecoming Game, Boosters are using the event to raise funds for ARHS Boys Soccer.

The Boosters are promoting a tailgate BBQ starting at 5:00 pm (an hour before kickoff) through halftime. They’ll be selling burgers, hot dogs, drinks, and ice cream through halftime.

Organizers will be set up in front of the stadium with payments accepted as cash or Venmo.

And speaking of Boys Soccer, the team suffered its 4th straight loss, 3-0, to Shrewsbury last Tuesday. They broke that streak with a 1-1 tie with Wachusett on Thursday, but lost again this evening 1-3 against Grafton.. The team’s record is now 2-6-3, and they are ranked 50th in Division 1.

Girls Soccer had a worse week with two losses, 1-0 to Shrewsbury and 2-0 to Wachusett, followed by another one this evening — 0-3 to Grafton. But their standing is better, ranked at #21 for D1. Their record is currently 3-5-3.

Girls Volleyball had an even worse week, with three shutouts by Westborough, Wachusett, and Shrewsbury. But, they started this week with a 3-2 win over Groton-Dunstable. The team’s record is 5-7 and they’re ranked #43 for D1.
