Southborough Youth & Family Services (SYFS) is moving from one historic, former school building in town, to another even older historic school building. On Monday, the Board of Health announced that a sample of mosquitos from Southborough were tested positive for West Nile Virus. (The mosquitos were apparently collected last Friday, June 26th.)
Our town was the fifth Massachusetts towns to have positive findings this summer. But the entire commonwealth is still designated by health officials as “low risk” for contracting the arbovirus. This spring, when the DPW asked voters to approve borrowing $22.26M for road maintenance projects over the next five years, the pitched plan included the major rehab of four roads this year. One of them was Pine Hill Road.

As I’ve previously posted, the installation of this year’s Art on the Trails exhibit took place a couple weeks ago. I noted that organizers would again be calling on poets to take inspiration in the exhibit.

The Southborough Open Land Foundation asked me to share a couple of news items. One is highlights from from their recent annual meeting where they reviewed accomplishments and gave out the annual Elaine Beals Conservation Award.

Earlier this month, the Southborough Food Pantry added more community members in need to their “client” list. As of mid-May, they are serving “200 people and counting” which they described as the highest number they have had “in quite a long time”.
