Yesterday morning a petition to save the Swap Shop was submitted to the Town Clerk’s office. The petition bore the names of more than 700 Southborough residents. MWDN: Southborough eliminates town engineer position
Southborough Town Engineer John Woodsmall recently accepted a position as the public works director in Holden (congrats, John!). His last day on the job was Wednesday. The Board of Selectmen this week decided to replace Woodsmall not with another town engineer, but with a staff engineer. It’s a move that is expected to save the town about $20K per year. Town boards say their members should be elected, not appointed
As a committee of residents considers legislation that if approved by voters would move Southborough to a town manager form of government, one of the things they will make a recommendation on is which town boards should be elected and which should be appointed. Two boards that are currently elected – the Board of Health and the Library Board of Trustees – have both said they want to remain that way.
