A while back I told you about the huge solar array Southborough developer Bill Depietri is building on Cordaville Road near the intersection with Route 9. When complete, it will be the biggest of its kind in Metrowest. But before that happens, Depietri will have to buy some new solar panels. That’s because 14 of his were stolen from the site last week. What a weekend for Algonquin. On Saturday the boys lacrosse and girls lacrosse teams won their respective district titles in back-to-back matches at Foley Stadium. The same day the Algonquin girls rugby team captured the Massachusetts Youth Rugby Organization State Championship title. Then on Sunday, the underdog Algonquin baseball team staged a huge upset over top-ranked St. John’s to win the Central Division 1 title. For several years now a committee of volunteers has been working on revamping Southborough’s zoning code. They’ve considered everything from open space protection to multi-family housing and subdivisions to commercial development along Route 9. Yesterday was a big day in Algonquin sports. Both the boys and girls lacrosse teams won their respective Central Division championship games. The boys beat Grafton by a score of 11-9 and the girls triumphed over Westborough by a score of 7-5. Both teams will move on to the state tournament with semifinal games on Tuesday. SOUTHBOROUGH – John C. Misener, 85, a life long resident of Southborough, died on Saturday, June 9, 2012, at Hearthstone at New Horizons in Marlborough after a long illness. Stonebrook Village is a development that can’t seem to get off the ground. First proposed as a 15-unit 40B affordable housing development off Oregon Road in 2008, the project got approval from the Zoning Board of Appeals in September 2010. But last August, Southborough developer William Depietri scrapped plans for the 40B saying he wanted to build an over-55 community on the property instead. I wasn’t able to attend last night’s Board of Selectmen meeting, but the Metrowest Daily News was there and reports on an interesting development in the ongoing effort to change Southborough’s form of government. Selectmen voted last night to create an ad hoc committee that will be charged with bringing Town Manager legislation before voters once again.
