Association holds annual reunions for Northborough and Southborough high school alumni

Last week, I came across a calendar listing for a reunion that puzzled me since I was unfamiliar with the group running it – the Northborough High School Alumni Association. The invite was open to anyone who ever attended Northborough High School, Peters High School, Algonquin Regional or Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School (and their guests).

When I reached out to organizers, it was too late for new attendees to register. An organizer did invite that anyone who would like to be on next year’s invitation list can reach out. So, I’m sharing their info now.

According to the NHSAA website, the group was founded in 1870 and initially held reunions for all past and present Northborough High students the night before Thanksgiving. That changed over the years.

Nowadays, the invitation is open to all former students of a Northborough or Southborough public high school. The 147th reunion was just held on Saturday afternoon at a country club in Boylston.

Attendees of recent reunions have skewed towards the older side. (You can take a look at pics from some recent years’ reunions here. They included photos from 2013 that focused on the Class of 1963’s 50th reunion.

A representative said they welcome younger generations to participate, but noted that many of the younger classes hold their own individual reunions so may have less interest. Anyone who plans to attend is encouraged to reach out to classmates in order to have a good showing from your year.

This year’s invite enthused:

Members from all over the country attended last year’s Reunion. This promises to be a day of nostalgia, bringing fond memories to all. We hope that you will start contacting classmates and making plans to attend. . .

Please remember to bring your photographs and scrapbooks to share.

I don’t have a date for next year’s party. But if you’d like to be on the mailing list, next spring/summer, you can contact the Executive Committee at:

Northborough High School Association
P. O. Box 693
Northborough, MA 01532

The association’s letters from this year asked members to pay $5 for the annual dues. Those are used to defray printing and mailing costs.

The group isn’t non-profit but it does raise funds for a scholarships. Eligible for the scholarships are graduating students from Algonquin Regional High School, or Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School who reside in either Northborough or Southborough.

You can look for more details on NHSAA here. On the site, you can also check out some photos from past reunions.
