Looking at the fire log reminded me; when the firefighters have some down time, they DO perform other duties. I stopped in to see a few pals at the station this morning. Two were out at the DPW Annex (formerly Station 2) performing maintenance on Rescue 25. The other two firefighters, Ken Franks and Ken Strong were working on a “safety web” to hold equipment in place on Engine 23. The same thing had been constructed to hold medical equipment in A28’s revamped equipment cabinet. E23 was also sporting some new equipment storage racks constructed by Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School. The fact that this work is being handled in such a fashion should be a reminder that the Fire Department has always taken on in-house projects whenever possible and feasible, at a significant savings to the taxpayers. Granted some work has to be contracted out to skilled services, but if anyone thinks the firefighters lay around watching television and napping all the time, they should take a closer look.

I completely agree with John’s comments re the Fire Department. We get great protection at a bargain tax cost! Thank you to the brave fire fighters!
