Holiday giving: Ways to help local families in need

As long as you’re out shopping on Black Friday or Cyber Monday, or whatever retail event you favor, don’t forget to pick up an item or two for local families in need. Here are a couple of excellent opportunities.

Southborough Fire Department Toy Drive
Members of the Southborough Fire Department are collecting new, unwrapped toys for children in need in our area. They’ll be distributed through Southborough Family & Youth Services, the Southborough Food Pantry, and the Framingham Salvation Army.

You can drop toys off at the Fire Department (21 Main Street) up until December 18. If you have any questions, call Sue at 508-485-3235.

Southborough Youth & Family Services Holiday Giving Program
Every year Southborough Youth & Family Services (SYFS) collects gift cards for Southborough families who need a little extra help to make the holidays special. You can help by donating gift cards from area grocery stores and gas stations, or places like Old Navy, Marshalls, T.J. Maxx, Target, and Toys R Us.

SYFS works with donor groups like St. Anne’s Church, Southborough Kindergroup, and the Southborough schools, so if you’re affiliated with one of the donor groups you can drop off your gift cards there. If not, call SYFS at (508) 481-5676 to make arrangements.
