Despite loss, Southborough Little Leaguers headed to state championship game

Southborough fell in a heartbreaker to Newton West in the final game of round-robin play yesterday, but in the end it didn’t matter. Southborough’s 2-1 record in the tournament is good enough to send them to championship game later today.

The team will face defending state and New England champions Peabody Western today at the Coakley School field in Norwood starting at 4:00pm. Southborough beat Peabody Western 10-0 in round-robin play.

“We are thrilled to be (in the final),” Trehub said. “We believe we deserve to be there, and we’re excited to play Peabody Western. We’d rather play the best and earn it that way.”

I’ve been told that a rally is being planned for the team at the Community House after today’s game. I’ll share more details as they become available.

Update: The rally has been moved to the Woodward School parking lot. See here for more details.
