The normally folk-focused Steeple Coffeehouse is mixing it up on Saturday night, welcoming Southborough native Dave Pietro and his jazz quartet to the stage. Tickets are going fast — Steeple Coffeehouse organizer Joe Mercadante said pre-sales were at an all-time high — so keep reading for details.

A saxophonist and composer, Pietro is now based out of New York. Here’s a bit about his bio:

Originally from Southboro, MA saxophonist-composer Dave Pietro has been on the New York music scene since 1987. From 1994-2003 he played lead alto saxophone and recorded five CD’s with the Toshiko Akiyoshi Jazz Orchestra.

He has also performed with the bands of Maria Schneider, Harry Connick Jr., Maynard Ferguson, Lionel Hampton, Woody Herman, Ray Charles and the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra.

As a leader, Pietro has recorded six CD’s for the A-Records/Challenge label with musicians such as Dave Holland, Bill Stewart, Kenny Werner, Scott Colley and Brian Blade.

In addition to Pietro on alto sax, the group features Mark Shilansky on piano, John Lockwood on bass, and Mark Walker on drums.

The show takes place at the Pilgrim Church Fellowship Hall. Doors open at 7:00 pm and the music starts at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $15 in advance ($12 for students/seniors) or $18 at the door ($15 for students/seniors).

The special 3-course menu at Tomasso Trattoria for Steeple Coffeehouse ticketholders is being offered again this month, but has already sold out. Onsite childcare during the show will be offered by the Pilgrim Church Youth Group. The cost is $10 for the first child and $5 for each additional child.
