A group of Southborough boys enjoyed the trip of a lifetime this summer when Boy Scout Troop 1 traveled to Alaska. One of those scouts, 14-year-old Joe Walsh sent in this recap of their trip.

Obit: Clayton “Rocky” Rock – September 9, 2011

Clayton Rock, 85, died Friday morning after a long period of failing health. He was the husband of Janice (Newton) Rock. He was born in Plattsburgh NY, the son of the late Clayton and Isabelle (Roche) Rock and lived in Southborough for the past 58 years.

John H. Luttrell Sr., 87, formerly of Natick, died Tuesday September 13, 2011 at Wayland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Cochituate. He was born in Woonsocket, R.I., on Nov. 6, 1923, son of the late John M. and Eva (Brouillard) Luttrell, and attended local schools before becoming a newspaper copy boy for the Woonsocket Call.

Selectmen to vote on interim fire chief

Sunday will be the last day on the job for Fire Chief John Mauro Jr., but his replacement isn’t expected to be hired until later this fall. That leaves the Board of Selectmen with a decision about how to run the department in the meantime. Tomorrow they’ll meet to talk about just that.
