Rob Evans has come a long way from waiting tables at White’s Corner. The Southborough native has made a name for himself in the culinary world as an award-winning chef and owner of two critically-acclaimed restaurants. Tonight he’ll take on his latest challenge when he competes on the Food Network show Chopped.
For those of you who haven’t seen it, Chopped is a cooking show that challenges four up-and-coming chefs to create an extraordinary three-course meal out of a collection of often bizarre mystery ingredients – think things like dried cuttlefish snack, squid ink, and frosted wheat cereal. After each course one of the chefs is “chopped” by a panel of three judges until only one is left standing
No word on whether Evans survives the chopping block, but his pedigree has to make you hopeful. Along with his wife, Hudson-native Nancy Pugh, Evans owns two highly-regarded restaurants in Portland, Maine – Hugo’s and the awesomely-named Duckfat. In 2004 he was named one of Food and Wine’s Top 10 Best New Chefs. In 2009 he won a James Beard Award.
You’ll have to tune into the Food Network to see how Evans does. The show airs Tuesday at 10:00 pm. I, for one, already have my DVR set.
I wish I had known about this sooner, I would have set my DVR too! Rob’s parents lived across the street from us when we first moved to Southborough and we heard all about some very wonderful meals that he would prepare for the holidays! I hope that he survived the Chopping Block!

Isn’t his sister the cafeteria manager at Neary? How exciting to have a Southborough guy to watch. I have never seen the show but I will watch it now. Fingers crossed for him!
